Our Roots
While BIR develops specialized imaging systems for medical‚ industrial‚ and security applications—our roots are in medical imaging. From our founders who began their careers with EMI (the company that invented computed tomography)‚ to our current management team who come from a diverse group of medical imaging companies‚ BIR has been on the cutting edge of imaging technology. For nearly 25 years we have designed and built high-performance imaging systems for some of the most prestigious names in medical imaging. 

Our Experience
While medical imaging formed the foundation for our core competency‚ BIR has continued to expand its capabilities to include high-energy x-ray screening systems for homeland security‚ port‚ border‚ and perimeter security applications. Our installed base of nearly 100 industrial computed tomography and digital radiography systems are used worldwide for both nondestructive testing and metrology applications. BIR is also a leader in x-ray detector design and manufacture.

These products and services require teams of highly-skilled professionals from a wide range of technical disciplines to build reliable systems for demanding applications. BIR has those multi-disciplined teams in place. Our staff includes physicists‚ embedded and object-oriented software developers‚ electrical engineers‚ mathematicians‚ mechanical engineers and regulatory experts. Project managers coordinate the activities of these professionals to assure that the final product is on time and within budget‚ while still meeting stringent performance and quality standards.

Our Leadership
Whether it’s a standard turnkey system‚ an add-on subsystem requiring integration‚ or a specialized component‚ the process is the same. We’ll take critical steps to define the product requirements (performance‚ cost‚ and time-to-market)‚ select the technology platform that best suits those requirements‚ then design and build systems that meet or exceed our customer’s expectations. At BIR‚ we do not simply take an order and perform the required tasks. In many cases‚ we offer suggestions for performance improvement or cost and cycle time reduction based on our knowledge of technology and processes. We strive to be partners with our customers not just a supplier.
